Here's nicole lining up the first tile in the kitchen. We knocked out all the old tiles. Unfortunately we took the advice of the guy at the hardware store, that a little unevenness in the floor can be compensated with the tile mortar. This may be true for someone with experience, but I'd definately recommend pooring a self-leveling layer under any tile floor. All in all it came out OK, and the few worse parts are going to end up under cabinets anyway...
